Scrivenshaft Challenge Cycle XII - July 2007: "Bee In Your Bonnet"

Cycle Dates: July 2 2007 - 31 July 2007 (and July 28 - August 15)
Entries Submitted: 2
Winners Announced: September 3, 2007

The Prompt

JK Rowling has been asked several times whether The Deathly Hallows is THE official end of Harry Potter, and as we approach the release of this seventh volume of the series, it's hard to imagine not patiently - er, and not so patiently - awaiting the release of The Highly Anticipated Next Book. And it's hard not to wonder... what could befall the Wizarding world next?

The Premise:

Write the book flap summary of the next Harry Potter book. Using any time frame and fitting characters therein, you must set the scene to the next era of the Harry Potter Universe, designing and summarizing the plot that your antagonists must tread. If you'd like, write what could be the eighth book of the series we all know and love, or go back and tell one of the many histories that we have thus far been presented with.

This month, things get a little bit different - instead of being judged to the normal criteria, Scrivenshaft judges for this round will be asked to choose the summary of the book they'd most like to read. Not only that, but your entry is due on July 19 August 15 - shorter time for a shorter entry - so if you've got a bee in your bonnet, an inkling to a potential Harry Potter plot, cram on that old Thinking Cap and begin!

Please note: NO SPOILERS will be tolerated. All entries will be checked for spoilers before being sent to the judges, and any found containing spoilers will not be included for judging. If you're not sure whether something is considered a spoiler, don't risk it: don't write it.

Your Limits:
1. All time periods are allowed, as are all characters.
2. All characters much be taken from canon, up to book sixseven. However, please make use of HP resources to keep actions and personalities as close to HBP-canon as possible.

Entry Rules/Regulations:

1. You may submit as many entries as you like.
2. Please do not submit an entry with a rating higher than R, though a rating no higher than PG-13 is strongly encouraged.
3. Please stay within the spirit of the prompt. Take advantage of its hints of personality and tone. Exploit these to your advantage.
4. Before submitting your entry, proofread it for spelling, punctuation, or grammatical mistakes.
5. Entries should be no longer than 300 words. Entries of over 300 words will be disqualified.
6. All entries must be received at scrivenshaft@unknowableroom.org by 11:59 CST on July 19 August 15 to be included for judging.
