It's now 12:01am on Monday, and all the votes are in! Thank you to all the Hourglass Awards judges for your 7,600 votes! You guys are incredible, and have put up with a lot from me in the short time I've been back, so thanks.

Because we're all high-tech now (thanks ChristyCorr), it will take a few days to get all the votes tallied and the winning banners made. Results should be posted inside a week.

Scrivenshaft judges? You've got until Tuesday to get your votes in for the latest cycle. Check with twinsuns if you have any questions.

Mentoring Session!

We're nearing the end of June, which means your Mentoring admin will be heading back to class in less than a week. There is only one thing to be done about this:

Hold another Mentor-led chat session!

Date: This Sunday, June 24th
Time: 2-5PM EST
Subject: To be decided by those who attend.

You know the drill by now: if you're interested in attending and will be able to participate, add 'zazenica' to your buddy list on AIM, IM me, and ask for a chat invite.

Since attendance has been really sporadic lately (and since the discussions seem to head into writing topics that aren't necessarily in line with the ones planned), I thought I'd wait and see which questions you guys have in mind--lately, the polls haven't seemed to predict the actual turnout for the chats. So think about which subjects you'd most like to talk about, and we'll see if we can't take it from there. :) Here's hoping more of you GMT-ers will be able to make it this time!

Hope to see you all there!
- Jenna

BRAND NEW!
Introducing the UR.org Calendar of Events!

You might be asking yourself, "What, we didn't have one before?!?" No, we didn't. But your Administrators have rectified the situation, and now you can see what we're up to, and when *ahem* certain votes are due any time you want! (Hourglass is due this Sunday, Scrivenshaft due next Tuesday - don't forget!)

Let us know what you think - we'd love your feedback.

The Great HBP Re-Read
Check here daily for new chapter-by-chapter threads for discussion and debate. Chapter 5 has now been posted.

Alright, roomies, the time has come!

Open for moderated membership is a new LJ community for mentors and apprentices alike. Some of our mentors have already joined and are ready for business, so if you're an apprentice (or are thinking of applying for apprenticeship), join the community, email me at silverspinner@unknowableroom.org, and tell me your LiveJournal username so that I can approve your request.

Cheers, everyone! Hope to see you there! :D

ATTENTION ROOMIES!
Unprepared for the Deathly Hallows? In need of a reread?

Well, now's your chance! We at UR.org want to make sure you've had all the HBP discussion you can handle, and will be hosting a chapter-by-chapter re-read on the UR.org Forums!

Starting MONDAY 18 JUNE, look for a new thread each day ON THIS FORUM. It'll be easy, just a question for discussion or some food for thought and commentary. We invite you to follow along each day, but you can also just pop in for chapters you particularly like. It's admin-started and member-driven, so if you've got ideas for questions, let us know.

This is, afterall, all for you guys ;). We want well-read and well-informed members here.

Hey there Unknowableroom!

Like the rest of the Admins flowing back into UR, I'm back, too. Welcome back, Holly! We're all glad to have you back in the saddle again!

I just have a few things to update you all on. =)

Fundraising

That time of year, to pay our UR bills, is quickly closing in again. Thanks to many of you, we are so close to having the correct amount! We aren't quite there, however.

As a reminder, there are a few easy ways to donate to the site (and remember, all donations, every penny, goes directly into UR funds. No profit or gain is made by any of the staff members). By visiting our Support page, you can follow the links to which way suits you. As always, any questions or problems, feel free to contact me! (missers@unknowableroom.org).

Currently, the Paid Accounts page is still under construction (the buttons aren't yet working). Until then, feel free to use the Donations button and make sure to leave an explanation in the notes section of your payment.

Spotlight

Before anything I say about the Spotlight program, I'd like to apologize to everyone about the lack of Spotlighting and updating. I do promise you to be much better about it from now on. To the best of my ability, I will update it weekly.

Secondly - it is updated once again (the archive). My apologies to a few past Spotlights, however. With my absence from the archive, I've lost (in the email graveyard) some of the survey responses. I do apologize, but if you receive another survey, and don't mind, I'd appreciate it if you could fill it out again and resend. I will not let that happen again.

Speaking of the Spotlight Surveys...I'm looking for some input. Can you suggest any alternative/better/different questions for Spotlighters to answer? Are the current questions fine? Are their any improvements to the program (aside from this admin updating it regularly) that you'd like to see? I'd love any and all feedback!

The Summer Of Harry Potter

Well - it's almost July and we all know what that means! The admins have been discussing how to manage the site before/during/after the release of The Deathly Hallows. We asked you for your opinion and have taken it into account.

The Unknowableroom will not tolerate spoilers. All spoilers, even possible spoilers, are expected to be labeled as such. UR will not shut down the site - however, we do expect all of our members and guests to act with a sense of maturity over this. We expect everyone to be understanding of those who do not want to be spoiled. There will be special forums for discussion and new fics/art will have tags to warn of spoilers (more, in depth explanation coming soon).

And, the staff of UR would like to remind all of you that under no circumstance would any one of us do anything to spoil anyone.

We've all come together based on our love for this universe - let's not spoil the community. =)

That's all for now! Hugs!
Missy

Hola, everyone. Brief update for tonight, but no less awesome:

Welcome to the Mentoring staff, WinglessFlight! It's a pleasure to have you aboard! :D

(Ah. I love making these types of announcements. *Beams*)

On that happy note, keep your eyes peeled for more updates and a fresh round of mentoring polls. Be back soon!

Cheers,

*pokes her head in*

Some of you may have seen me nosing around the forums the last few days, checking in and being bowled over at how this place has grown. Some of you may even have noticed that I got my dots back overnight...what does this all mean?

Well...it means you're stuck with me-as-Admin again.

You really have ChristyCorr to thank (blame?) for my return. See, she got in touch two weeks ago with a few formatting questions, and a few days later with a question about book 7 spoilers, and a few days later with a copyright issue, and after a few "hey, got a sec?" requests, I did as I do: I butted in. And when I heard about how hard the admins are working to keep this place running smoothly for you guys, I did as I do: I offered to pick up some of the workload.

And so here I am, a little older, a little grayer, but very happy to be welcomed back to this great place. Twinsuns has been doing a phenomenal job over at Scrivenshaft, and I wouldn't dream of taking that away from her. Instead, I'll be overseeing The Hourglass Awards, and will be the resident end-of-Book-5 McGonagall (with cane), lurking about the archive (mostly forums and Wiki), keeping things in line and helping out. I'm thrilled to be working with my old TGB-mod-turned-UR-admin friends, and am very excited to get my hands dirty with a whole new (to me) batch of mods and members.

You guys have always been great and helpful to me in the past, and I will be relying on you a lot as I get back into the swing of things. And, you know what would be the BEST 'welcome back' I could ask for (besides a howdy in the comments)? If those of you involved in Hourglass would head on over here and give me some votes to count for the Hourglass Awards . All votes are due by the 24th, but sooner=better. (I don't think that's too much, do you?)

Those working on Hourglass, both judging and helping out, can expect to hear from me in the next day or so (though it would be great if you could raise your hands so I don't forget anyone), but I wanted to just say hello to the archive at large - it's been a while, but Baby, you've never looked better.

Oh! And I brought a treat:

Well, it took us long enough, but we've just revamped our rating system. The rating descriptions now include a section that applies to fanart, so if you aren't sure how to rate your submissions, you'll definitely want to head over to the rating page and catch up.

Feel free to approach the admins with any questions you may have--we'll always be glad to answer. :)

Hola, everyone!

CHANGE OF PLANS: Since nobody seems to be coming to the forums, we're going to move back to AIM and see how that works.

Same procedure as last year--add 'zazenica' to your buddy list and IM me for a chat invite. :)

Cycle XI of the Scrivenshaft Challenges is now closed!

Potential judges: look for an e-mail in the next few days -- the e-mails have just been sent, so check your inboxes. *grins*

In the meantime everyone, don't forget to judge the Hourglass Awards if you have signed up to do so, and stop by the mentoring chat Saturday evening! ♥

Have a great day,

Mentoring chat session!

Alright, so I've delayed setting a date for the next mentoring chat long enough (hopefully everyone interested has voted in the polls by now--if not, well...you can still try...). The date, time, and topic, in accordance with popular demand, shall be:

Plot & Writing Style
From 8 - 11PM EST
Saturday, June 2nd.

Instead of using AIM, however, we're going to try using the forums instead. If it doesn't seem to be working, we'll try using the chat feature here on UR--or, if you guys would prefer, we can switch back to AIM. Time allowing, I'll try to hold another session relatively soon after this one (within a week or two, perhaps). I'll be sure to poll everyone before setting further dates and topics.

Cheers. See you in a few! :)
