Merry Christmas from all of us here at UR!

I'm updating to remind you all that you only have a few days left to nominate your favorite fics over at the Hourglass Awards, so keep those nominations coming, okay? I'll update the nominations list today so that everyone has a clear idea of what's nominated where. Congratulations to all of the authors that have been nominated so far. I can tell that this is going to be a wonderful round.

In the spirit of the holidays, I've uploaded a couple new polls. If you don't celebrate Christmas, no offence is meant! As always, everyone is welcome to participate in them. We look forward to seeing what you have to say.

I'm off to get lunch and then I'm going to focus my attention on a Christmas-inspired one-shot. :) If any of you have written any Christmas one-shots lately, why not comment here and let me know? I'm definitely in the mood to read and review some good ones.

Cheers, and have a safe holiday!

Ehm. The request for a suggestion box has been out there for a while, and now it's finally here (crazy, eh? XD). So go for it. Let us know what you'd like to see on UR; don't be shy! It may take us a while to process your suggestions/get in touch with the right people, but don't worry, your ideas won't be lost on us.

One other thing: the Writer's Resource Page has been updated, and there should be even more links up soon. :)

Have a great week,
- Jenna

A few quick announcements

Hello, Unknowableroom. I've a few small announcements tonight.

One, we finally have definitions for the rating system. As with pretty much everything on this site, they're subject to editing as the need arises, but they should help answer some general questions about which ratings to use.

Two, we're still interested in recruiting mentors.

If you know of a really good author whom you think would be a good mentor, don't hesitate to recommend them; when we receive your nomination, we'll see if that person is interested in getting involved.

If you yourself are interested in becoming a mentor, you can still apply here. Bear in mind, however, that we really are selective in choosing who becomes a mentor; we don't mean it as a personal insult if you're turned away, so don't worry if you aren't given the position. You can always try again later, if you feel so inclined. :)

Lastly, check out the new polls. It's always interesting to find out what you guys think.

That's all for now. Happy Holidays!

Cheers,
- Jenna

Challenge Judging Survey

The Scrivenshaft Challenge Judging Survey has been sent out to all judges for this cycle. If you received an email of appointment and did not receive an email from Zoomerang, please let me know immediately so that can be remedied (you only have a week to complete the survey, so the sooner the better!).

Winners should be chosen by Christmas, and announced before the end of the year. Good luck to all writers!

Also, look over at the Forum for a new topic in the Challenges -- we're looking for ideas for the new year's cycles!

Updates and a Secret Layout

A few quick announcements...

I've updated the Hourglass Awards page to reflect an up-to-date list of nominations. Clearly, categories such as Romance - Major and Best One Shot are sort of overwhelmingly populated at present. I'm glad that so many people are taking time to nominate their favorite fics, but let's also try to turn our heads toward fics from other areas of the fandom. I can name a dozen good Angst, Comedy & Parody, and Life-Changing Drama fics off the top of my head. Those kinds of fics deserve attention, too. :)

There are 3 new polls. *chuckle* I'm a bit interested to see how many people have discovered the 3rd UR.org layout. There is a way to get to it, but it's secret for the moment, in part because it's not finished and because it was at first meant to be only for people with paid accounts. A couple of you have seen it already (by accident, mostly). If you HAVE seen it, what do you think of it? Personally, it's my favorite out of all 3 we currently have available.

Fanart sections and the Nagging thread have been added to the UR.org forums. Use them to discuss fanart and to nag your favorite authors to update respectively.

Finally, I've updated the spotlight on the main page. Sorry about having dear Erin's Hot for Teacher up there for 2 days straight -- we ran out of fics on our long list and had to go look for some more!

Have a great weekend.

Quick update tonight:

Welcome to the Mentoring Staff, Emmyjean!

Huge grins abound. It's quite honeslty amazing to have so many talented authors participating in this program. Emmyjean, we're thrilled to have you aboard. Beyond thrilled, actually. I daresay we all had a moment of (exceedingly) pleasant shock when we received your response--we've got some awesome times ahead. :D

Many cheers, everyone!

Hourglass Awards are Coming

Apologies must be made for the slow start on the Hourglass Awards. However, we are very pleased to announce that nominations are now open!

Nominate your favorite fics after you read the main Hourglass page.

We realize we have jolting starts on many aspects of the site, but hope that soon things will be on a steadier path. I'm looking into the status of our java chat application today as well, so.

In addition, I've added even higher ranks for heavy posting on the forums. There are now ranks up through 3500 posts. This isn't to encourage mindless posting by any means, but we thought it would be fun for those of you who are well on your way there anyway. :) Thanks for keeping the forums so active! In other forums news, I've also added a Fanart section. We've received several requests for a place to discuss fanart, so there you are.

Here's to hoping everyone is having a good weekend.
