OMFG, ahahahahaha, this movie is made up of so much lulz. Out of curiousity, I youtubed it and got that Breaking Free song where ahahaha, Zac Efron does this moonwalk thing and Vanessa Hudgens pre-porno times does this wannabe Latina thing xD I think the auditorium all getting on their feet and clapping because OMFG the jock-ish faghead and the geeky girl so OMFG soooo cool singing their trooly inspirational song amused me the most.

Of course, I want to fuel my amusement, and so I watched another clip of when they first met, and this random guy pulls them on stage to karaoke, and instead of saying fuck this and walking off, Cool Guy Efron actually sings the cheesy lyrics of the hilariously pink screen, and Shy Girl Hudgens actually joins in. Way to portray realistic situations, Disney.

ETA: OMFG, MORE LULZ. Efron strips and the crowd of middleaged women go wild!

And they both magically know the harmonies and lyrics halfway through, lol.

YES! Another High School Musical cynic! Don't you especially love the way they never even have the musical? The whole thing centers around OMG AUDITIONZ!!!

*dies* Omg, HSM is totally one of my guilty pleasures. I know it's dumb, but the songs are ridiculously catchy. ("This could be the start of something new it feels so right to be here with you.") and the last song, Breakin Free, it's like, impossible not to know every word to that song (not that I do, or anything....*darts eyes*)

*laughs* I would have loved this movie when I was thirteen <s>and I'm kind of scared of watching it in case my AgeThirteen!Crys breaks free and joins in with the musically inclined breaking free</s>. Some of the girls in my school break out in random snippets of I'm soaring, and flying etc etc in class or whatever, haha. I've never seen the movie properly, but from what I'm seen of her there and in her budding music career, I don't much like Ashley Tisdale. At least Hudgens amuses me with her porno scandals XD

Hah, I loved what she told Seventeen or Cosmo or one of those. She was like, "I'm a better person for it now."

Dude, what?

I'd totally be a better person if there were nakey photos of me on the internet.

Must say, I saw the title of this thread and was like "Oh, Crys, noooooooo!" because I was afraid it was going to be all fangirly rather than mocky. SO GLAD I was wrong.

I, too, am very relieved that at least the original post wasn't fangirling. *glances at Liz*

HSM2 is WORSE. One day it was on TV, my mom was folding laundry in the living room and I was helping my sister with homework... we left it on and laughed at it the whole time.

Stfu guys. I do not fangirl it. I enjoy it as a guilty pleasure and also happen to know all the songs. That doesn't mean that I don't think it's stupid.

The thing I find funny about HSM, apart from everything else, is that Efron's friends are like 'singing and dancing is for losers' and then they turn around and start actually singing and dancing. I mean, I know it's a musical and that's what they do but still. I told this to my friend who likes HSM and she pretty much told me to stfu.

I have seen High School Musical and it made me laugh. It's ridiculous and not-quite a parody but it made me laugh with its camp and its cheese, which -- to be fair -- is a time honoured tradition of musical theatre.

Um, yes. What Chelle said. The camp and cheese and the ridiculousness is why it has the honor of calling itself one of my guilty pleasures.

A lot of old-school musical theatre junkies like High School Musical for that reason. Not the modern ones, but the classics like On The Town, Bye Bye Birdie, 42nd Street. Annie, Crazy For You, etc.... High School Musical is sort of in the same vein, but set in a shockingly modern setting as opposed to the thirties or forties or whatever. The styles are similar.

I saw 42nd Street last time I was in NY with my Mom (on 42nd Street no less, which I naturally found amusing) and I loved it!

*points to self* Exhibit A.
I heart the old time musicals. Guys and Dolls, the Sound of Music, Bye Bye Birdie, Fiddler on the Roof, Meet Me in St. Louis...*sighs* *hugs them*
