Chapter 7: I hate Barbie’s

--

“You’re going out with Henry?” Remus whispered harshly into my ear while he, Sirius, and I were working on our potion in class—Sirius, who normally worked with James, had joined us as his partner was cutting class apparently. Odd, though, that a certain slag, who shall remain nameless, from Hufflepuff was also absent form the class…

“Yep,” I smiled proudly.

“Lily, he really likes you.”

“And I like him too,” I defended.

“no, Lils, he really likes you, has for ages, finally got up the guts to ask you out after pining away for you for Merlin knows how long,” Remus explained, he really did know exactly what chords to pull to hit my conscience. Damn.

I sighed as I started cutting up some root that Remus had handed to me. “I do like him, Remus.”

“You’re stringing him along.”

“Oi, Remus, don’t be such a downer, I’m sure he won’t get too hurt, it’s just Lily,” Sirius cut in.

“Gee thanks, Sirius,” I sarcastically muttered.

Sirius let out a small chortle. “point is, Remus, we’re just seventh years, no one’s looking for the love of their life now, but come on, you can’t honestly tell me that you haven’t always wanted Lils and our Prongs to get together. I know I have, even if Prongs has yet to realize just how great of a pair they’d make.”

I turn to Sirius slowly and Remus and I both sent him a rather shocked and perplexed look. “Since when are you such a romantic, anyway?”

“Oi, I have my moments.”

Remus, however, cocked an eyebrow at him, not letting the subject rest.

Sirius was always one to easily fall victim to Remus's interrogations, as he let out a rather petulant sigh of defeat. “I’ve always liked romantic comedies okay? And I suppose… maybe… the parallels between this and some of my favorites make me a tad bit sentimental…”

“Well,” I said, really just for the sake of saying something as I found myself at a total loss for words. “That was unexpected.”

“yeah, well don’t get used to it,” Sirius told me with a grunt that I suspect was only added so he could feel all manly after that rather girly admission.

“You know, that was kind of cute,” Remus teased Sirius, pinching his cheek lightly, an action that Sirius didn’t take well as he emitted a deep growl.

“I like them together, is that really such a crime? Now let’s just finish the potion already, yeah?” Sirius muttered, stirring the potion rather violently as he held the ladle with a vice grip. Scary sight, actually.

“hey you,” I grunted slightly as greeted James while taking a seat by his side on Saturday morning, I really needed my morning coffee if I was actually expected to last even a few more seconds without passing out. “Any big plans for Hogsmeade today?” I asked him, yawning slightly, as I prepared myself a large mug of coffee… mmm, caffeinated heavenliness.

He shrugged in a typical male fashion that for some reason, one that’s totally beyond me, I found rather sexy. What the hell is wrong with me, anyway? “Adele and I are going to the pink monstrosity.”

Ah, yes, Adele i.e. the Barbie. God, I hate her. She’s just so blonde… leggy… blue-eyed… boobilicious… everything any seventeen year old bloke could possibly hope for. I hate her and her perfect Barbie-eque self. Why does James have to be such a typical guy anyway? Prat.

“That’s nice,” I muttered in a clipped tone.

He chuckled lightly. “You know, you don’t have to pretend to like her, I know you find her annoying and vapid.”

“Well she is.”

James shrugged, again. “I don’t know… I like her.”

“Well of course you do, have you seen her breasts?” I retorted, rolling my eyes.

He laughed. “So what are you doing today anyway?”

“Going with Henry to the Three Broomsticks for a spot of lunch and some drinks probably. There’s not much else to do there for a date anyway,” it was my turn to shrug as I said it, and I do have to admit there is something great about shrugging. It’s such a simple action, but it so perfectly exudes this “c'est m'egal” or “whatever” attitude. Now I think I can totally understand why blokes do it so often, it is fun to do and leaves you with more energy as you don’t have to waste time with pointless words when really a shrug is enough anyway.

James, on the other hand, was taken completely off guard by my response as his eyes practically bulged out of his head… it was a pretty funny sight, actually. Right hilarious, really. “Henry… as in Henry McCoy?”

I nodded my head. “Yep, why so interested?”

He shrugged, again—did I mention that he likes to do that, a lot? “Nothing, just surprised you said yes, is all.”

I furrowed my eyebrows, raising an inquisitive eyebrow; my interest has most definitely been piqued now. “And why is that?”

“I don’t know… he’s just very wholesome, boy next door type, never really struck me as your type.”

I nodded slowly, smiling slightly. “I know, I think it’s time for a change though, a break from the marauders, you know?”

“Hmm…”

author’s note: this is a small interlude to sort of show where everyone is at in regards to Lily’s new plan, the next chapter, however, will be her date with Henry and some revelations…

p.s. once again, if anyone has any fic recommedations, i'm all ears!
