53. Height of Dishonour

Word count: 100

Characters: Remus, James, Peter, Sirius, Lily

Note: Inspired by this little bit in Deathly Hallows, page 81 of the American edition:

"No, I think you're like James," said Lupin, "who would have regarded it as the height of dishonour to mistrust his friends."

--

They suspect him.

Sirius has withdrawn entirely - no upfront accusations, no outright damnations, only cold silences.

The rare times Peter speaks, the words are laced with fear.

Lily’s face twists when Remus holds Harry in a way that stops Remus visiting all together.

And James -- James finds him after Order meetings, invites him to dinner, continues to be there on full moons. The message is clear in everything he does: I trust you, Moony, even if they don't.

It should be a comfort, but it stings worst of all; if James cannot convince them, a werewolf stands no chance.
