While the rest of the world celebrates with shooting stars and champagne, Remus is in the deepest throes of grief. He watches Dedalus’ display with venomous bitterness, wishing on it for the return of Voldemort – hell, ten more years of war – if only it will bring them back.
Twelve years later, Peter has been alive all along, Sirius is innocent, and Harry Potter’s Patronus is a stag. Thirteen years later, Sirius appears on his door haggard and worried and oh, God, Moony, he’s back.
Privately, Remus always wonders if the Second War is recompense for his selfish wish.
